JAKARTA — National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo
announced that the government is preparing traffic engineering measures
comprising one-way systems, contraflow, and odd-even schemes throughout
the Eid 2026 holiday exodus and return periods. These policies are being
implemented to regulate public mobility, which is projected to reach
hundreds of millions of people.

The traffic management arrangements are formalised in a joint
decision regarding road traffic regulation and crossing management
during the Eid 2026 transportation exodus and return periods. The policy
is designed to anticipate vehicle congestion and ensure smooth travel
for the public.

“The joint decision covers restrictions on cargo transportation
operations, implementation of one-way systems, contraflow, and odd-even
schemes, delay of construction projects, regulation of sea crossings,
and temporary repurposing of vehicle weighing stations as rest areas for
road users,” Sigit said whilst leading the Operation Ketupat 2026
deployment at the National Monument in Jakarta on Thursday (12 March
2026).

These policies are being implemented given the high potential for
public mobility during this year’s Eid period. Based on a survey by the
Ministry of Transportation, projected population movement during Eid
2026 is estimated at 143.9 million people.

This figure is somewhat lower compared to the previous year, which
reached 146.4 million people. The decline of approximately 1.75 per
cent, equivalent to 2.5 million people, still requires thorough security
preparation and traffic management arrangements.

“Nevertheless, we still need to anticipate if there is an increase in
actual movement realisation,” Sigit said.

To support smooth travel for those heading home, the National Police,
alongside the Indonesian Military and various stakeholders, are
conducting Operation Ketupat 2026. This operation runs for 13 days from
13 to 25 March 2026.

A total of 161,243 combined personnel have been deployed in this
operation. Personnel are distributed across various main exodus routes
to maintain security and ensure smooth traffic flow.

“The National Police, supported by the Indonesian Military and
relevant stakeholders, are conducting a centralised operation under the
codename Ketupat 2026 for 13 days from 13 to 25 March 2026, involving
161,243 combined personnel,” Sigit said.

Security is further strengthened through the provision of 2,746 posts
comprising 1,624 security posts, 779 service posts, and 343 integrated
posts. These posts function as information and service centres for the
public travelling during the exodus period.

Authorities are focusing security on 185,607 locations expected to be
busy during the Eid holiday. These locations include mosques, Eid prayer
sites, tourist attractions, shopping centres, terminals, ports, railway
stations, and airports.

“The National Police has prepared 2,746 posts comprising 1,624
security posts, 779 service posts, and 343 integrated posts,” Sigit
said.
",
