One killed in Jayapura flood<\/p>\n
JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: The local Search and Rescue (SAR) team,
\nwith the help of residents, found the body of a university
\nstudent, said to be the only victim of last week's massive flood.<\/p>\n
The corpse of Zakarias Sudir, a student of the Fajar Timur
\nCatholic Theology and Philosophy College, was found behind
\nCendrawasih University Bawah housing complex in Padang Bulan
\narea, Abepura district, Antara reported.<\/p>\n
Zakarias had been reported missing after flood waters
\ninundated parts of the provincial capital and nearby Abepura
\ndistrict from Saturday until Sunday morning.<\/p>\n
On Monday, Urbanus Piran, a resident of Abepura, said Zakarias
\nwas believed to have been trapped in his shanty at the complex,
\nwhere the muddy water level reached the houses' roofs.<\/p>\n
According to Urbanus, the student was building a hut for his
\npigs, a project to help finance his study.<\/p>\n
Zakarias was believed to have been drowned inside the
\nstructure while attempting to evacuate his pigs.<\/p>\n
The dead body was taken to Dok II Emergency Hospital in
\nJayapura for a postmortem examination.<\/p>\n
At least 4,700 families have been evacuated from their
\ninundated houses by SAR teams, who have used four rubber boats to
\nreach the flood victims.<\/p>\n
Some 50 vehicles were reportedly engulfed by the flood, which
\noccurred after heavy rains hit the area for four hours.<\/p>\n
In some areas, flood waters damaged asphalt roads.<\/p>\n
The worst hit area was Abepura, 20 kilometers from the
