One killed in bus collision on Jakarta-Tangerang toll road<\/p>\n

One passenger was killed and dozens of others slightly injured
\nwhen a Steady Safe bus, plying the Cimone, Tangerang, to Kampung
\nMelayu, East Jakarta, route, collided with a Mayasari Bakti bus
\ntraveling between Cimone and Kota in West Jakarta. The accident
\noccurred at kilometer 15.6 of the Jakarta-Tangerang toll road on
\nFriday at around 10:50 a.m.<\/p>\n
Both buses plunged into the ditch running alongside the
\nexpressway. The collision occurred only a few weeks after six
\npassengers were killed when a bus collided with a truck on the
\nJakarta-Tangerang toll road.<\/p>\n
This was the fifth accident on the Jakarta-Tangerang toll road
\nthis year.<\/p>\n
The dead passenger was identified as Saefudin, 25, a resident
\nof Ulung Manik village, Kaungantun district, Cilacap regency,
\nCentral Java.<\/p>\n
Saefudin suffered severe head and chest injuries. His remains
\nwere taken to the Tangerang General Hospital.<\/p>\n
The other passengers refused to be taken to the hospital and
\ncontinued on their journey to Jakarta after receiving first aid
\ntreatment from officers from the Jasa Marga toll road company and
\nTangerang traffic police.<\/p>\n
Brig. Hardi, a traffic police officer, said that based on the
\naccounts of passengers, the Mayasari Bakti bus was speeding down
\nthe nearside carriageway heading for Jakarta.<\/p>\n
\"The Steady Safe bus started to overtake the Mayasari Bakti
\nbus. Unfortunately, the rear of the Steady Safe bus sideswiped
\nthe front of the Mayasari Bakti bus,\" he said.<\/p>\n
\"The driver of the Mayasari Bakti bus lost control and the bus
\nwent off the road and plunged into a ditch. Apparently, the
\ndriver of the other bus also lost control and his bus went into
\nthe ditch a few meters in front of the Mayasari Bakti bus,\" he
\nadded.<\/p>\n
Both bus drivers are being questioned by police at Tangerang
\nPolice headquarters.<\/p>\n
Friday's accident caused four-kilometer tailbacks in both
\ndirections as irresponsible drivers stopped to gawk at the crash
\nscene.<\/p>\n
The last accident on the expressway, prior to the latest one,
\ntook place on July 15 when an ARH bus traveling between Cimone
\nand Senen hit a container truck on the toll road, 100 meters from
\nthe Karang Tengah toll gate.<\/p>\n
Six people were killed, including the bus conductor. The
\ndriver himself, who survived the incident, fled the scene and is
\nstill being hunted by police.<\/p>",
