One killed as train crashes into van<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A man was killed and three others injured when a
\nspeeding train crashed into an Isuzu Panther van at the level
\ncrossing in front of Kepiting market in North Jakarta yesterday
\nafternoon.<\/p>\n
Police quoted witnesses as saying that the driver of the van,
\nwho was killed in the accident, ignored traffic signals and
\nwarnings by other motorists.<\/p>\n
Chief Sgt. Moh. Rodji of Pademangan Police subprecinct said
\nthe accident took place about 11 p.m. when the car crossed the
\nrailway line in front of an electric train plying the Tanjung
\nPriok-Kota line.<\/p>\n
"The train stopped after dragging the car, which had four
\npeople inside, along the tracks for about five meters."<\/p>\n
Rodji said the van's passengers were freed from the car's
\nwreckage after passersby and police spent two hours trying to
\nseparate the car and train.<\/p>\n
Police identified the driver of the van as Wasin Yuhanan, 44,
\nof Jl. Utan Panjang, Kemayoran in Central Jakarta. He suffered
\nsevere wounds to his back and feet and died on impact.<\/p>\n
The three injured passengers were identified as Erni, Lilis
\nand Iis, who are all salesgirls for a firm which produces health
\ngoods.<\/p>\n
Wasin's body was rushed to Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital
\nin Central Jakarta for a postmortem examination while the three
\nwomen were sent to nearby Husada Hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n
A hospital source said that the three suffered severe wounds
\nto their arms and feet and were in shock.<\/p>\n
"They are in the emergency unit and will be moved to the
\nintensive care unit," a nurse said. "They're conscious but can't
\nrecall how the accident happened." (04)<\/p>",
