Another young man, identified only as AA (18), died as a result of\ngang violence in Jogja. The beating that led to AA\u2019s death adds to the\nlist of savage gang incidents in the DIY region after the death of a\nstudent in Bantul and a gladiator-duel incident in Pakualaman in\nMarch.<\/p>\n
AA was killed near SMAN 3 Jogja on Sunday, May 17, in the early\nhours. Police have arrested three suspects in the case and are still\npursuing three more.<\/p>\n

Initially AA was thought to be a victim of klitih, but a day later\nthe Jogja Police confirmed that the victim died from being beaten by\ngang members.<\/p>\n
\u2018So we reiterate again that this was not klitih or street crime,\u2019\nPandia said.<\/p>\n
Pandia said preliminary findings suggest the incident was sparked by\ntaunting between two gangs that ended in assault. The perpetrator and\nvictim were believed to be members of school gangs.<\/p>\n
\u2018This is not klitih. It began with taunts between two gangs. Taunts\nfrom two gangs so that in the early hours someone died,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
\u2018The injuries? Varied, to the chest, and here on the side (abdomen\narea) as well,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n
Case of the Bantul Student\u2019s Death and Gladiator Duel<\/p>\n
Before this case, there were two other gang-related incidents in DIY\nthat drew attention. First, the death of a student in Bantul and\ngladiator duels as a condition for leaving a gang.<\/p>\n
Ilham Dwi Saputra (16) from Pandak, Bantul, was eventually\nidentified. Seven perpetrators turned out to have killed Ilham due to\nvengeance between gangs.<\/p>\n
Ilham was beaten on Tuesday (14\/4) night. He required intensive\ntreatment for the injuries sustained and was pronounced dead five days\nlater.<\/p>\n
Police then arrested eight people in stages. The seven suspects were\nBLP (18) from Kretek Bantul, YP (21) from Bambanglipuro Bantul, JMA (23)\nfrom Pakualaman Jogja, and RAR (19) from Bantul. Then AS (21) from\nPiyungan Bantul, ASJ (19) from Kasihan Bantul, AIF from Bambanglipuro,\nand SGJ (19) from Mantrijeron Jogja.<\/p>\n
Ilham was subjected to brutal torture to vent vengeance from clashes\nbetween gangs. The victim was taunted via social media and was\neventually killed.<\/p>\n
\u2018Motive is revenge. There had been disputes before,\u2019 said Bantul\nPolice Chief AKBP Bayu Puji Hariyanto to reporters at Bantul Police, on\nTuesday (28\/4\/2026).<\/p>\n
\u2018JMA also stabbed the victim 14 times using a pair of scissors\nprepared at home,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n
Earlier still, residents were shocked by two youths who were slashed.\nThey were forced into gladiator duels as a condition for leaving the\ngang.<\/p>\n
A bloody duel between two groups of students occurred in Pakualaman,\nJogja, in the early hours of Wednesday (25\/3). As a result, two people\nsustained slash wounds.<\/p>\n
Public relations officer for Jogja City Police, Ipda Anton Budi\nSusilo, said the case came to light after two victims AP (18) and RA\n(17) were rushed to Pratama Hospital with slash wounds on Wednesday\n(25\/3).<\/p>\n
From there, information emerged that they were victims of gladiator\nactivity or duels between groups. Gladiator activity is a condition for\nleaving a gang.<\/p>\n
\u2018Through AP\u2019s statements, RA and MR (a witness) are believed to have\nbeen part of the Vascal gang and both wished to leave the gang, but\nothers in Vascal would not allow them to leave without a fixed or\ngladiator duel,\u2019 Anton said when contacted on Thursday (26\/3\/2026).<\/p>\n
As a result of the clash, AP and RA sustained serious injuries. AP\nsuffered slash wounds to the left shoulder, both arms, and the right\nthumb, and was treated at Wirosaban Hospital.<\/p>\n
RA sustained slash wounds to the left chest, side, penetrating the\nlung, and was treated at Pratama Hospital. However, due to the severity\nof the injuries, RA was referred to Bethesda Hospital in Yogyakarta.<\/p>\n
