On the monorail<\/p>\n
We would like to make a correction on the following statement
\nthat was printed in your newspaper on March 3 (page 8) under the
\nheading Monorail firm demands city secure loans:<\/p>\n
\"... that the company demanded the city administration to
\nhonor its obligations stated in a contract ... including to cover
\nany financial shortfalls and repay the company's debts to banks.\"<\/p>\n
We have never stated that we asked the Jakarta administration
\nto cover financial shortfalls and to repay the company's debts to
\nbanks as stated in your article.<\/p>\n
We assume you must be aware that such a guarantee from the
\ngovernment is impossible.<\/p>\n
What we meant during the interview was that we have asked for
\nadditional support from the Jakarta administration to help speed
\nup the financing process by providing limited recourse, such as
\nequity or a tariff subsidy in the initial years of operation.<\/p>\n
The subsidy support we asked for is similar to the facility
\nprovided by the government to build the busway system .<\/p>\n
Any requests are still under deliberation with the Jakarta
\nadministration and await independent review from the relevant
\nauthorities before approval.<\/p>\n
Due to traffic congestion and the high cost of fuel, Jakarta
\ndesperately needs a safe and reliable public transportation
\nsystem, such as the monorail. But, we can only deliver this
\nsolution with public support and the commitment of the central
\ngovernment and the City Council.<\/p>\n
