On sexual attitude<\/p>\n
It was very interesting to read C. Parry's letter about the
\nissue of sexual attitudes here in Indonesia (The Jakarta Post,
\nAug. 23, 2000). Well, I must admit, first of all, I myself take
\nit for granted that the changes in sexual attitudes in Indonesia
\nare merely because of western influence. But as you said, it's
\njust an excuse, and I think it has an explanation which makes it
\nan excuse.<\/p>\n
As information media (from the TV, magazines, Internet) is
\ngrowing rapidly, all kinds of information (news, film, music) are
\nflying freely from one country to another. In Indonesia, most of
\nthe entertainment in television is imported from western
\ncountries, such as America. And the influence can not be ignored.
\nAs can be seen from the screen, westerners have a different way
\nof life than people in Indonesia. As far as sexuality is
\nconcerned (in terms of the way of life and perception of it) they
\nare freer than Indonesians.<\/p>\n
Changes in sexual attitudes here seem to be much influenced by
\nthe transparency of information media. And in my opinion, it
\nstill needs a long time to say and prove that Indonesian sexual
\nattitudes are changing because Indonesians themselves want to
\nchange.<\/p>\n
