On Israeli aid<\/p>\n
I am a regular reader of The Jakarta Post. In the Jan. 25
\nedition I read a letter regarding aid from the Israeli government
\nwhich I thought was a very narrow-minded view from someone I
\nwould expect is a university graduate.<\/p>\n
It is true that we do not have diplomatic ties with Israel and
\ncondemn what they have done to Palestine and Yasser Arafat.
\nHowever it does not mean that they cannot give aid to Aceh. This
\nis more humanitarian in nature than political.<\/p>\n
It saddens me to know that there are still people who are
\nsuspicious of the sort of goodwill shown by the Israelis.<\/p>\n
In my opinion, it does not matter where the aid comes from but
\nwhat the aid is for. We should be thankful. We have received a
\ngreat deal of aid from a lot of countries, including ones without
\ndiplomatic ties here. We must not condemn or reject it.<\/p>\n
