Jakarta \u2013 Golongan Karya (Golkar) party has commented on the\nimplementation of an e-voting system in the 2029 general election. Ahmad\nDoli Kurnia, Deputy Chairman of Golkar\u2019s Central Executive Board, stated\nthat whilst e-voting could be implemented, it must first be resolved\nthrough amendments to the Electoral Law.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is part of the issues we need to address in the revision of the\nElectoral Law,\u201d he said at Golkar\u2019s Central Executive Board office in\nCentral Jakarta on Monday, 1 June 2026.<\/p>\n
In its implementation, Doli assessed that the e-voting system\nrepresents an advancement towards a more efficient and modern electoral\nsystem. The system is also considered capable of facilitating greater\npublic participation in elections.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe essence is using digital or electronic systems at electoral\nstages to make it easier for the public,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Doli revealed that implementing digitally-based\nelections could significantly reduce the cost of the democratic process.\nIn addition, technological advancement makes elections more transparent\nand accountable.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope that if a digital or electronic system is used, it will be\ntransparent and accountable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
However, Doli noted that several prerequisites must be met by the\nstate to ensure the system operates effectively, including\ninfrastructure requirements.<\/p>\n
\u201cInternet network infrastructure, for example, we still have much\nwork to do. Let alone internet networks, even electricity networks are\nstill inadequate,\u201d he remarked.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, cybersecurity demands attention, as several countries\nthat began using such systems have since abandoned them due to hacking\nvulnerabilities.<\/p>\n
Therefore, the government must prepare thoroughly to prevent hacking\nduring the conduct of elections using this digital system.<\/p>\n
