On comparative studies<\/p>\n

We feel proud knowing that the members of the House of
\nRepresentatives conducted a comparative study in a certain
\nforeign country. The aim of this study was clearly to enhance
\ntheir organization and management capacity, and the people have
\nno doubt always given full support to such programs.<\/p>\n
However, is it true that our venerable legislators have done
\nthe right thing; or is it only a disguised activity?<\/p>\n
According a news item in Kompas, on July 30, a member of the
\nIndonesian Students Association abroad, saw by chance some
\nIndonesian legislators just shopping for Gucci and Bally bags in
\nFrance and Holland. In fact, the people they were supposed to be
\nconsulting with on the \"study\" during their survey were on
\nvacation, or in a recess period.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, people here have never known or been told about
\nthe results of these studies, which were done by the legislators
\nevery time there is a change of government. It is a waste of
\nmoney as no concrete results have ever been achieved.<\/p>\n
They shouldn't do such an unproductive activity, particularly
\nwhen the nation has been experiencing a number of catastrophes
\nlike the tsunami, malnutrition, bird flu and unemployment, just
\nto name but a few.<\/p>\n
If the aim is only to learn about the democracy as practiced
\nin foreign countries and their national laws, the legislators can
\nget the materials and learn the knowledge from our own experts in
\nthose particular areas in Indonesia. Our conclusion is that the
\npeople's representatives are not sensitive about the people's
\nsuffering.<\/p>\n
