On civilian-military dichotomy<\/p>\n

Some circles are still questioning whether former military
\nleaders can become democratic statesmen, which in my view is
\nunreasonable. All good men strive to make adjustments to their
\nenvironments and positions to achieve the best in life.<\/p>\n
It is narrow-minded to judge against someone because of their
\nmilitary background and it is exaggerating to say military
\ninstitutions somehow control democracy.<\/p>\n
Certain intellectuals with overseas educations have criticized
\nmilitary candidates and popularized the term \"militarism\",
\nwithout fully understanding its meaning. Former servicemen will
\nnot automatically be militaristic and authoritarian in their
\nleadership.<\/p>\n
History has shown various cases in which militarism was
\napplied by civilian leaders. The important aspect is therefore
\nthe effective control of the chief executive's performance and
\nthe responsiveness of the national leader to public demands.<\/p>\n
Fortunately, though, many circles are capable of more logical
\nreasoning without being trapped in the civilian-military
\ndichotomy. They assume that the leaders they choose should be
\nable to induce public confidence and promote the welfare of all
\ncitizens.<\/p>\n
