On CFR's visit to Papua<\/p>\n
I refer to the news item in The Jakarta Post on Nov. 29, 2002,
\ntitled Foreigners denied entry to Papua.<\/p>\n
Through its Center for Preventive Action, the Council on
\nForeign Relations of New York (CFR), an independent non-
\ngovernmental organization, is preparing a report The Indonesia
\nCommission: Peace and Progress in Papua.<\/p>\n
Your news story includes assertions that are factually
\ninaccurate. The CFR has been in contact with responsible
\nIndonesian government officials both in the United States and
\nJakarta. Members of the Commission intend to visit Indonesia as
\npart of its efforts to prepare the Commission report. Though we
\nwelcome discussions with all concerned, the private visit will
\nnot, however, be made at the invitation of either the Indonesian
\ngovernment or the Papua Presidium.<\/p>\n
The Indonesia Commission does not endorse Papuan separatism.
\nIt highlights strategies for parties to promote peace and
\nprogress in Papua. The Commission's effort is in the interest of
\nall Indonesians including Papuans.<\/p>\n
