Tangerang District Court's decision to hand out the death
\npenalty to a drug dealer deserves to be hailed. In the midst of
\nlegal uncertainties, there are still judges who make determined
\nverdicts, and ones in accordance with the law.<\/p>\n
For a long time drug dealers and users have only received
\nlight sentences, triggering people to distribute drugs like
\nshabu-shabu, heroin, marijuana and the like. That is why drugs
\nhave widely spread everywhere.<\/p>\n
Illegal drugs are a very big concern. Drugs are not only
\nabused by the haves but also by the have-nots, even by teenagers
\nand children. Parents are worried if their children are trapped
\nin a circle of drug abuse.<\/p>\n
The wide spread of drugs can be seen from the cases of Maya
\nSigit, wife of Ari Sigit, grandson of former president Soeharto.
\nWe're not surprised as with enormous wealth drug's are not hard
\nto get.<\/p>\n
How about Doyok and Polo, both entertainers by profession. Not
\nto mention about other cases undetected so far, because the
\nvictims are not public figures worth reporting on. The number of
\ndrug victims cannot possibly be counted, but it's quite big.<\/p>\n
The destructive impact of drug abuse is whopping. Addicts can
\nkill themselves by overdosing.<\/p>\n
Addicts can't control themselves and become a burden on their
\nparents. And to get them free of drugs, very large amounts of
\nmoney are required.<\/p>\n
Drug abuse by the younger generation is fatal as the nation's
\nfuture is in their hands. If they become drug addicts, what good
\ncan be expected from them?<\/p>\n
Considering the fatal impact of and the disaster brought about
\nby drug abuse, I fully agree if capital punishment is imposed on
\ndrug dealers, because they are the state's most dangerous
\nenemies.<\/p>\n
In other countries heavy punishments for drug dealers are not
\nsomething strange. Now is the time for Indonesia to apply heavy
\npunishments as well. And it's appropriate if relevant
\ninstitutions and other communities support this. Hopefully, the
\napplication of capital punishment on drug dealers does not cause
\npros and cons. It would be a great pity if capital punishment is
\nrevoked.<\/p>\n
