On borrowing<\/p>\n
I am a daily reader of The Jakarta Post and I particularly
\nliked the "By The Way..." column in your Feb. 9 Sunday edition.<\/p>\n
The piece was titled "Blessed absentmindedness, misplaced
\nadvice", by Chandrika Radhakrishnan.<\/p>\n
Upon returning to Indonesia after living abroad for almost 40
\nyears, I experienced what the writer described in the article. I
\n"lost" millions of rupiah, not just a few cents.<\/p>\n
Some people came to me and "borrowed" money. Yes, the word
\nthey used was "borrow", and they actually "talked big" also. Then
\nthey just conveniently forgot about the "borrowed" money.<\/p>\n
I can understand this from satpam security guards or the
\npeople from surrounding villages, but as for those people from my
\nown housing complex with their big talk, I find mind boggling.<\/p>\n
I forgot about such things, because I lived outside of
\nIndonesia for so long. I wonder what it is that makes people
\nbehave in this way.<\/p>\n
I am still puzzled.<\/p>\n
