On Borobudur comment<\/p>\n
While thanking Paul Griffin of Brisbane, Australia, for his
\nattention and interest in the conservation of Borobudur temple as
\nan example of archaeological legacy in Central Java province, as
\nexpressed in his letter to The Jakarta Post (April 9, 2003), we
\nwould like to make the following clarification:
\n* It is true that the Central Java provincial administration will
\nrevamp the arrangement of the Borobodur temple area in an effort
\nto conserve the temple, promote the living standards of the
\nlocals living around the temple site and improve services to
\ntourists in terms of comfort and security.
\n* It is not true that in this revamping the Central Java
\nadministration is planning to build a shopping mall.
\n* The Central Java provincial administration has set up an
\nindependent team, comprising experts from various areas related
\nto the conservation of the temple. The team is now making a
\ndetailed study of this conservation effort to ensure that this
\nrevamping will not alter the function of Borobudur temple as a
\ncenter of religious observance, as well as an item of historical
\nlegacy with international interest. Even UNESCO has been informed
\nof this revamping plan.<\/p>\n
