Jakarta, VIVA \u2013 Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said his office\nis still awaiting calculations from the National Disaster Mitigation\nAgency (BNPB) regarding the need for additional budget allocations for\ndisaster mitigation.<\/p>\n
\u201cYes, we will increase it in line with the request, because it is\nBNPB that does the calculations. We will see what BNPB\u2019s calculations\nlook like \u2014 I have not received them yet,\u201d said Purbaya at the\nPresidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Monday, 7 September 2026.<\/p>\n
Purbaya said his office was still waiting for BNPB\u2019s calculation of\nbudget requirements before determining the size of the additional\ndisaster mitigation budget.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo we are waiting for BNPB?\u201d a journalist asked.<\/p>\n
\u201cOf course. Otherwise, who would I give it to?\u201d Purbaya replied.<\/p>\n
Earlier, President Prabowo Subianto stated that the budget allocation\nfor disaster mitigation must be increased significantly as an\nanticipatory measure against potential disasters in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must be ready to face situations like this at any time. It is\nalso a lesson for us, for the government I lead \u2014 the budget allocation\nfor disaster mitigation must be increased significantly,\u201d said Prabowo\nwhile opening a limited meeting on natural disaster handling in\nIndonesia via video conference at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on\nMonday, 7 September 2026.<\/p>\n
According to the President, Indonesia\u2019s location in the Ring of Fire\nregion carries a high risk of facing various disasters, so the\ngovernment needs to improve its preparedness before disasters occur.<\/p>\n
Prabowo asked Minister of State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi to coordinate\nwith Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa and Minister of National\nDevelopment Planning\/Head of Bappenas Rachmat Pambudy to draft disaster\nmitigation planning based on the principle of providing more resources\nthan the minimum requirement.<\/p>\n
\u201cMore helicopters is better, more water pumps is better, more fire\nengines is better. That way we are prepared before anything happens,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The Head of State also requested that more small excavators be\nprepared at the village level, particularly in areas that routinely face\nforest fires.<\/p>\n
Prabowo instructed the drafting of a comprehensive and massive\ndisaster mitigation master plan, including the strengthening of\nsupporting facilities for forest and land fire (karhutla) handling.<\/p>\n
