Hundreds of students from various Indonesian universities are\nparticipating in OlympiAR 2026, a competition designed to test\nparticipants\u2019 ability to resolve case studies within the mining\nindustry. Organised by PT Agincourt Resources, the competition focuses\non the theme of environmental protection and ecosystem resilience in\nmining activities.<\/p>\n
The opening of OlympiAR 2026 was held at the East Hall of the Bandung\nInstitute of Technology (ITB) on Friday (4\/9\/2026). Participants from\nvarious departments related to the mining industry were challenged to\napply critical analysis to solve the provided problems.<\/p>\n
PT Agincourt Resources Director of Operations, Rahmat Lubis, stated\nthat OlympiAR is a student competition that serves as part of the\ncompany\u2019s social responsibility initiatives. In addition to the\ncompetition, the company also conducts other activities such as\neducation and scholarship programmes.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was previously called e-Coaching Camp, but after involving\nthousands of students, the format was upgraded to OlympiAR,\u201d he said\nduring his opening remarks at the ITB East Hall.<\/p>\n
The last OlympiAR was held two years ago and involved 600 students\nfrom 28 universities across Indonesia. Rahmat noted that the competition\nprovides a space for students to gain perspectives from practitioners\nworking directly in the industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe believe we can always provide experience from the corporate side.\nThere may be different perspectives from what students learn on campus\nwhen they interact with us as field practitioners,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Rahmat mentioned that the first-place winner would receive a cash\nprize of Rp50 million. In addition to the prize, participants have the\nopportunity to gain experience through mentoring processes and\ninteraction with industry professionals.<\/p>\n
During the event, Rahmat also touched upon a new discourse regarding\nthe management of mineral reserves with greater consideration for\nenvironmental aspects. One idea discussed at a mining industry\nconference in Australia involves keeping gold reserves underground while\nstill assigning economic value to them.<\/p>\n
\u201cPerhaps in the next 10\u201320 years, gold mines, for example, will no\nlonger need to be excavated. I was surprised when it was suggested that\nsince we know how much gold we have, we can simply leave it underground\nwhile maintaining its economic value,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He likened this concept to a bank deposit, where the value of an\nasset can be calculated and traded without the need for physical\nextraction.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is wealth that can be traded; everyone can calculate it, and\nthere are ways to calculate it. But it doesn\u2019t need to be dug up. You\nget the money, but you don\u2019t need to mine,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
According to Rahmat, this idea is one of the new paradigms that could\nencourage the mining industry to pay more attention to environmental\naspects. However, he emphasised that the concept remains a discourse and\nis currently theoretical.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe see many new paradigms in the mining industry. We are also trying\nto implement this in our company, especially regarding matters related\nto the environment in the future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
In line with this theme, OlympiAR 2026 carries the theme \u201cOre Body to\nEcosystems: Integrating Mining Performance and Environmental\nResilience\u201d. PT Agincult Resources is collaborating with the Indonesian\nEconomic Geology Society (MGEI) to organise the competition.<\/p>\n
Participants receive mentoring from field practitioners, work on\nindustry case studies, and participate in paper writing and presentation\ncompetitions. The competition also offers opportunities for participants\nto gain internship experience at PT Agincourt Resources.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want to bridge the theory that students receive from expert\nlecturers on campus with our perspectives as field practitioners. The\nwinners will not only receive financial prizes but, God willing, can\nintern at PT AR. If their performance is good, they could certainly join\nour team,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Mayor of Bandung, M. Farhan, noted that OlympiAR helps bring the\nacademic world and industry needs together. He stated that Bandung and\nITB serve as ideal locations to scout students with expertise in geology\nand related sciences.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are proud that Bandung and ITB have been chosen as venues to\nscout and test the best talents in the fields of geology and other\nrelated sciences in Indonesia,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
