The Financial Services Authority (OJK) and the Ministry of Micro,\nSmall, and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) have agreed to form a task force or\nworking group to expand access to funding and financing for SMEs through\nthe financial services sector.<\/p>\n
At the UMKM Finance Summit 2026 in Jakarta on Tuesday, OJK Board of\nCommissioners Chairperson Friderica Widyasari Dewi said the working\ngroup would follow up on cooperation between the OJK and the Ministry of\nSMEs to integrate various SME development programmes with the financial\nservices sector.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are creating a task force, teamwork, or working group that will\njointly work on how these SMEs can advance. One way is through funding\nand financing from the financial services sector, as well as how SMEs\ncan move up a class and increasingly become the main engine driving the\nIndonesian economy,\u201d Friderica said, as quoted from an official\nstatement from the Ministry of SMEs.<\/p>\n
The formation of the working group is part of a memorandum of\nunderstanding (MoU) between the Ministry of SMEs and the OJK signed to\naccelerate access to financing for SMEs across Indonesia.<\/p>\n
Minister of SMEs Maman Abdurrahman said the expansion of financing\naccess must be accompanied by strengthening market access so that the\nadditional capital received by SMEs can drive business growth.<\/p>\n
According to Maman, financing provided without market support risks\nfailing to produce optimal business growth because the products produced\nby SMEs may not necessarily be absorbed.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we want to encourage growth in financing access to the SME\nsector, this must also be balanced with securing the market. We must not\nprovide financing, enable SMEs to produce goods well, but then when the\ngoods are to be sold, there is no market to absorb them,\u201d Maman\nsaid.<\/p>\n
He said the Ministry of SMEs would prepare policies to strengthen\nmarket access while coordinating with stakeholders so that financing\nreceived by SMEs can be used productively and support business\nsustainability.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of Commission XI of the Indonesian House\nof Representatives (DPR RI) Hanif Dhakiri, who oversees finance,\nnational development planning, monetary affairs, and the financial\nservices sector, said expanding SME financing also requires a paradigm\nshift in the national financial system.<\/p>\n
According to Hanif, the financing problem does not lie solely in the\nability of SMEs to meet the requirements of financial institutions or\nbecome bankable. The financial system also needs to adapt to the\ncharacteristics, transaction patterns, and economic activities of\nSMEs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe problem is not merely that SMEs are not yet bankable, but that\nthe financial system is also not yet SME-able,\u201d Hanif said.<\/p>\n
He said this approach could open up opportunities for developing more\nadaptive financing schemes, among others by utilising transaction\nrecords, business activities, and SME economic data as part of financing\neligibility assessments.<\/p>\n
