        "content": "<p>'Ojek' drivers stage protest<\/p>\n<p>BATAM, Riau: Almost all stores in the business areas of Nagoya<br>\nand Sei Jodoh, Batam, were closed on Tuesday due to a huge<br>\ndemonstration by thousands of ojek (motorcycle taxi) drivers, who<br>\nobjected to the government's tax policy on the industrial bonded<br>\nzone.<\/p>\n<p>The drivers, grouped in All Batam Ojek Communication Forum,<br>\nwaved banners and posters while marching to the mayor's office,<br>\nthe Batam authority office and Hang Nadim Airport, saying that<br>\nthe imposition of value-added tax and sales tax on luxury goods<br>\nhad pushed up the prices of daily basic needs.<\/p>\n<p>Store owners said they had to close their shops earlier in<br>\nfear of possible violence.<\/p>\n<p>It was the second demonstration by locals protesting the tax<br>\npolicy.
