'Ojek' drivers beat man to death<\/p>\n
TANGERANG (JP): A 21-year-old alleged extortionist was beaten
\nto death by a group of ojek (motorcycle taxi) drivers in Jatake
\nvillage on Sunday evening.<\/p>\n
Herman, dubbed the King of Extortion by local ojek drivers,
\nsuffered severe head injuries and bruises during the attack.<\/p>\n
Tangerang Police chief Lt. Col. Arianto Boedihardjo confirmed
\nyesterday that Herman had been savagely beaten.<\/p>\n
\"He died on the way to Tangerang General Hospital,\" he said.<\/p>\n
According to the ojek drivers, Herman, whose body was covered
\nin tattoos, demanded money from them every day.<\/p>\n
\"He was unemployed so he often intimidated us to make sure we
\ngave him some money for various reasons, including for security.
\nWe were so incensed,\" an unidentified ojek driver was quoted by
\nAntara as saying.<\/p>\n
On Sunday evening, Herman approached the group of ojek
\ndrivers, and demanded money from one of the men, Syamsuddin, also
\n21, Arianto said.<\/p>\n
The latter refused to yield to his request as he had not
\nearned any money that day, he said.<\/p>\n
When Herman put pressure on him, Syamsuddin informed the other
\nojek drivers, who beat him until he fell unconscious, the police
\nofficer said. Herman was unable to defend himself against the
\ngroup.<\/p>\n
Ariyanto did not disclose whether any of Herman's attackers
\nhad been arrested or detained.<\/p>\n
The victim's body was being kept at the hospital yesterday and
