        "content": "<p>Oil slips to 2-week low as US-Iran talks continue, but no peace deal\nyet<\/p>\n<p>Oil prices slid on optimism that the US and Iran were moving closer\ntowards a peace deal, even though they remained at odds over key\nissues.<\/p>\n<p>SINGAPORE: Oil prices hit two-week lows on Monday (May 25) on\noptimism that the US and Iran were moving closer towards a peace deal\neven though they remained at odds over key issues, including blockades\non the Strait of Hormuz that continued to restrict oil supply from the\nMiddle East.<\/p>\n<p>Brent crude futures fell US$4.71, or 4.55 per cent, to US$98.83 a\nbarrel by 10.34pm GMT, while US West Texas Intermediate was at US$92.03\na barrel, down US$4.57, or 4.73 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>Both contracts touched their lowest since May 7 earlier in the\nsession.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, US President Donald Trump said that Washington and Iran\nhad \u201clargely negotiated\u201d a memorandum of understanding on a peace deal\nthat would reopen the Strait of Hormuz, which before the conflict\ncarried one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments.<\/p>\n<p>However, the two sides remain at odds on several difficult issues,\nwith Trump saying on Sunday he had told his representatives not to rush\ninto any deal with Iran.<\/p>\n<p>MST Marquee analyst Saul Kavonic said: \u201cNotwithstanding all the\ncaveats and risks that remain to the peace deal and Strait of Hormuz,\nthere is now some light at the end of the tunnel, which will bring some\nnear-term oil price relief.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, analysts expect that it will take months for oil flows\nthrough the strait to return to normal and for damaged oil and gas\nfacilities to be repaired.<\/p>",
