Official's wife faces punishment<\/p>\n
YOGYAKARTA: The local elections committee will summon Mrs.
\nSuharto, wife of the secretary to the Bantul regent, for
\nallegedly abusing the housewives organization (PKK) she leads in
\nfavor of the Golkar Party.<\/p>\n
She has allegedly persuaded the PKK members and wives of civil
\nservants to vote for Golkar in the upcoming elections.<\/p>\n
\"Mrs. Suharto said that civil servants should not be afraid of
\nsupporting Golkar,\" committee chairman Achmad Affandi said
\nFriday.<\/p>\n
Affandi said Mrs. Suharto, a civil servant herself, had
\nillegally campaigned for Golkar in the residence of the Bantul
\nregent and in the residence of subdistrict chiefs.<\/p>\n
In the past, it was mandatory for all civil servants to vote
\nfor Golkar. But after Soeharto's downfall, the policy was
\nscrapped.<\/p>\n
\"We will reprimand Mrs. Suharto and file a complaint with her
\nsuperiors over her illegal activity,\" Affandi said. (swa\/44)<\/p>",
