Officials urged to inspect their schools<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Minister of Education and Culture Wardiman
\nDjojonegoro has urged all high-ranking officials of the ministry
\nto conduct on-the-spot observations of educational development in
\nthe country.<\/p>\n
Wardiman said recently that top officials need to closely
\nobserve educational development for several days by visiting
\nschools.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a get-together with model teachers and students at
\nhis ministry, the minister said that officials of the first,
\nsecond and third echelons should be aware of the problems which
\noccur in schools.<\/p>\n
He said that they should get directly involved in educational
\nprograms for at least two hours a day at any given school.<\/p>\n
"This way the officials will have first-hand information on
\neducation and will not just depend on reports from their
\nsubordinates," Wardiman said.<\/p>\n
"If the officers are not involved directly in education
\nactivities they will only depend on reports from their
\nsubordinates, which may not be reliable," he added.<\/p>\n
He said that at the institutions the officials can do the jobs
\nof administrative employees or even sit as students.<\/p>\n
Citing an example, Wardiman said that the director of basic
\neducation of the ministry could observe classes at a primary
\nschool or kindergarten and the director of high school education
\ncould sit in for a day at some junior or senior high schools.
