Based on the report of the Public <br>\nServants' Wealth Audit Commission (KPKPN), our senior officials <br>\nhave abundant wealth. However, it has not spurred the commission <br>\ninto action.<\/p>\n<p>We need to recall Bung Karno's struggle during the Dutch <br>\ncolonial period. He was jailed several times by the Dutch <br>\ncolonialists. But, Bung Karno felt neither daunted nor hopeless. <br>\nHe kept on fighting for the freedom of his country, which was <br>\nfinally declared on Aug. 17, 1945.<\/p>\n<p>At that time the president, vice president, ministers, <br>\nlegislators, governors and regents were willing to have their <br>\nsalaries and other allowances cut by between 30 percent and 50 <br>\npercent.<\/p>\n<p>Imagine if we compare the income of the common people who are <br>\nnow living in misery to that of senior officials or legislators <br>\nwho enjoy an easy life.<\/p>\n<p>These officials should also be willing to have their salaries <br>\ncut and allowances for housing, vehicles and other facilities <br>\nabolished.<\/p>\n<p>The minister for trade and industry should stop imports of <br>\nforeign products and luxury cars to reduce government <br>\nexpenditure.
