        "content": "<p>Officials plan Maluku security before holy days<\/p>\n<p>AMBON, Maluku (JP): In a bid to prevent more sectarian<br>\nfighting during the upcoming religious festivities in late<br>\nDecember and at New Year, leaders of the violence plagued Maluku<br>\nprovince met on Tuesday to talk about security plans.<\/p>\n<p>The two-hour meeting led by Maluku Governor Saleh Latuconsina<br>\ndecided, among other things, to field soldiers and police in all<br>\nspots considered vulnerable to clashes.<\/p>\n<p>Pattimura Military Commander Brig. Gen. I Made Yasa, Maluku<br>\nPolice chief Brig. Gen. Firman Gani, head of the State<br>\nProsecutors' Office I.D.K. Kresna, Ambon Navy Chief Col. Didi<br>\nSetiadi and Provincial Legislative Council speaker Etty Sahuburua<br>\nattended the meeting at Latuconsina's office.<\/p>\n<p>\"The Military and Police chiefs agreed to prevent conflicts<br>\nduring the religious holidays and the New Year's eve celebration.<br>\nMass mobilization by the warring groups must be anticipated,\"<br>\nLatuconsina said. \"We will make sure that mosques and churches<br>\nare safe from any troublemakers.\"<\/p>\n<p>The Muslim Idul Fitri holidays will fall on Dec. 27 and 28 and<br>\nmany Malukans have worried that more violence would erupt ahead<br>\nof the holy days.<\/p>\n<p>Sectarian clashes have been haunting the residents for more<br>\nthan one year, with all steps by the government ineffective at<br>\nstopping the fighting. Thousands have been killed during the<br>\n\"civil war.\"<\/p>\n<p>While waiting for the arrival of two companies of marines from<br>\nJakarta to bolster security at Ambon Bay, Latuconsina said he had<br>\nordered Ambon Navy chief to immediately set up two floating<br>\nsecurity posts in the bay and man them with existing troops. \"The<br>\nposts will be at Tanjung Marthafons and Yos Sudarso seaport.<br>\nAreas that are prone to conflict.\"<\/p>\n<p>He said local authorities had also decided to send one platoon<br>\nof troops and food stuff to Kesui Island, East Seram, Central<br>\nMaluku, to help some 500 refugees living in a nearby forest since<br>\nSunday's communal clashes.<\/p>\n<p>\"It is possible to evacuate the residents from the forest, if<br>\nthey want,\" he added.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Japanese Ambassador to Indonesia Takao Kawakami<br>\nis slated to meet with Latuconsina, local officials as well as<br>\nthe Maluku chapter of the Indonesian Ulemas Council and Amboina<br>\nDiocese to discuss latest situation.<\/p>\n<p>In his two-day visit, the Ambassador is also scheduled to<br>\nvisit two refugee camps in Kayu Tiga, Soya village, Sirimau<br>\ndistrict and in Waihaong subdistrict, in Nusaniwe district before<br>\nleafing for Ternate, North Maluku.
