Officials ordered not to compromise with violators<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Governor Surjadi Soedirdja ordered his
\nsubordinates yesterday not to hesitate to take stern actions
\nagainst regulation violators in order to improve public services.<\/p>\n
\"Don't be afraid to implement every regulation without
\ncompromise as the rule was not prepared and deliberated
\nindiscriminately but through a democratic process,\" Surjadi said
\nafter inducting several high-ranking city officials.<\/p>\n
\"It is unwise to make any compromise with the violators
\nbecause your conduct will just disgrace you,\" Surjadi said,
\nadding that the regulations should no longer be discussed.<\/p>\n
Surjadi reiterated that the city administration is a service
\norganization and not an arena to discuss the content of the
\ncity's regulations.<\/p>\n
He expressed concern with the officials who should be
\nupholding the regulations, not making compromises.<\/p>\n
By compromising, he said, many developers avoid having to
\nbuild their housing projects in line with the agreements signed
\nby their representatives and those of the companies.<\/p>\n
Surjadi underlined the importance of improving the attitude
\nand work ethic of city officials, especially those in the City
\nPlanning Office.<\/p>\n
Poor services<\/p>\n
The office has been severely criticized by the public due to
\nits poor services.<\/p>\n
\"You all have to improve your work ethic and implement the
\nregulations without compromise because you are responsible for
\nthe city planning of the future,\" Surjadi said, pointing to the
\nfact that many buildings are also built in forbidden areas.<\/p>\n
At yesterday's ceremony, the governor inducted Achmadin Ahmad
\nas the new head of the City Planning Office, Hartanto as the new
\nhead of the City Development Supervision Office and Aslan Lasman
\nas head of the City Health Office.<\/p>\n
Moch. Rahardjo was installed as the head of the City Fishery
\nOffice, Soemitro as head of the City Husbandry Office, Firman
\nSenapan as head of the Jakarta Office of Information Ministry and
\nTunggono as head of Jakarta and Tangerang state-owned electricity
