Official fired for holding up aid<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Governor Sutiyoso announced Thursday that he had
\ndismissed the Central Jakarta National Unity Office head Zainal
\nAbidin for intentionally delaying the disbursement of aid to
\npolitical parties.<\/p>\n
Speaking during a plenary session of the city council,
\nSutiyoso revealed that Zainal was officially dismissed on
\nTuesday.<\/p>\n
City spokesman Muhayat added that Zainal postponed the
\ndisbursement of Rp 55.6 million (US$5,940) for the National
\nMandate Party (PAN) last year.<\/p>\n
Besides PAN, the Justice Party, and the Unity and Justice
\nParty also claimed that their allocations had come a few months
\nlate.<\/p>\n
PAN councillor Wasilah Sutrisno revealed earlier that her
\nparty would reject Sutiyoso's accountability speech due to, among
\nother things, the delay in the disbursement of the party funding.<\/p>\n
It's still unclear whether there was any political reason
\nbehind the delay in the disbursement of the funds<\/p>\n
The 2001 city budget has allocated Rp 6.5 billion for the 48
\npolitical parties which contested the 1999 general elections. The
\naid is supposed to be disbursed quarterly. -- JP<\/p>",
