Official arrested on charges of raping a minor<\/p>\n
TANGERANG (JP): Local police have arrested the head of a
\ndistrict health agency here for allegedly raping his 14-year-old
\nadopted daughter.<\/p>\n
Junus, 40, was apprehended while on a government-sponsored
\ncourse in Bandung, West Java, on Wednesday evening after his wife
\nadmitted her alleged role in aiding and abetting in the rape.<\/p>\n
\"Both of them admitted their alleged roles in the rape of the
\ngirl,\" Tangerang Police Chief Lt. Col. Djoko Satrio told The
\nJakarta Post yesterday.<\/p>\n
The victim, Ria (not her real name), a junior high school
\nstudent, told the police she had been raped at least three times
\nby Junus with the help of his wife, identified only as Ti.<\/p>\n
All the alleged crimes took place at the couple's house in the
\nKeroncong Permai housing complex in Jatiuwung subdistrict,
\naccording to the teenager, Djoko said.<\/p>\n
\"The victim also said that she was often asked to watch the
\ncouple having sex,\" Djoko said. Ria was also told to watch X-
\nrated videos with the couple, he added.<\/p>\n
The officer said the victim, the eldest of five children of a
\nlate journalist, first reported the crime on Tuesday evening
\nafter escaping from the house.<\/p>\n
She first told the chief of the Jatiuwung subdistrict who then
\ntook the case to the local police station. Detectives then went
\nstraight to Janus' house and questioned his wife, Djoko said.<\/p>\n
\"During the first questioning session, the woman denied the
\ncharges but admitted them a few hours later after we confronted
\nher with the victim,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Junus, who was seized the next day in Bandung, could not
\ndefend himself on account of his wife's confession.<\/p>\n
According to the teenage victim, she was raped for the last
\ntime on Monday evening under the watchful eyes of Junus' wife.<\/p>\n
Djoko quoted Ria as saying that as she screamed for help, Ti
\nonly pinned her down.<\/p>\n
\"I think this couple has a serious mental problem,\" the police
\nofficer commented.<\/p>\n
After the rape, the couple did not allow the girl to leave the
\nhouse, apparently in fear that she might report the incident to
\nthe police.<\/p>\n
The arrest of the senior health officer and his wife sparked
\nanger among Tangerang state employees yesterday.<\/p>\n
\"A few days ago, the health officer delivered a speech here
\ntelling his juniors how to be a model state employees and
\ncitizens,\" one said.<\/p>\n
According to Djoko, his detectives have begun compiling
\nevidence. Witnesses are now being sought in order to complete the
\ndossiers.<\/p>\n
While Junus is being detained at the Tangerang police precinct
\nhis wife is being kept temporarily at the local Women's
\nPenitentiary.<\/p>\n
The teenage victim, whose family lives in a nearby village,
