        "content": "<p>Officers jailed for bribes<\/p>\n<p>SINGAPORE (AFP): Five Singaporean immigration officers have<br>\nbeen jailed for taking bribes from Malaysian-operated syndicates<br>\nto make it easier for Indonesians to enter the city state, a<br>\nreport said yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>The officers, on duty at the Malaysia-Singapore border<br>\ncheckpoint at Woodlands, were given jail sentences of up to two-<br>\nand-a-half years each.<\/p>\n<p>Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore island are linked by a<br>\ncauseway.<\/p>\n<p>The officers were also ordered to pay a penalty equal to the<br>\namount they received in bribes totaling S$14,000 (US$10,000),<br>\naccording to the Straits Times daily.<\/p>",
