        "content": "<p>Officers demolish makeshift guard stations in Koja<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Security officers forcefully entered the Koja<br>\nUtara area on Saturday and demolished residents&apos; makeshift guard<br>\nstations and tightly guarded the project site.<\/p>\n<p>Since Friday, a number of residents have been injured, with<br>\none picked up by city police.<\/p>\n<p>The residents said the incident took place before 5 a.m on<br>\nSaturday.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Four trucks came and police, together with military officers,<br>\ngot out and rushed at us. Other officers rode motorcycles,<br>\npassing us,&quot; Wati, an eight-months-pregnant woman, said.<\/p>\n<p>After more than an hour, tractors and other equipment entered<br>\nthe area, beginning the construction work on the appropriated<br>\nland under the officers&apos; guard, she said.<\/p>\n<p>Reporters were not allowed to enter the construction area, or<br>\ntake pictures on the site.<\/p>\n<p>The North Jakarta mayor, as well as City Military Chief of<br>\nStaff Brig. Gen. Sutiyoso were reported to have come to the site<br>\nand observe the construction.<\/p>\n<p>On Wednesday, City Military Commander Maj. Gen. Wiranto warned<br>\nthe residents to accept the compensation set by the government<br>\nand move from the site, scheduled to be used as a container<br>\nterminal.<\/p>\n<p>Compensation<\/p>\n<p>The North Jakarta mayoralty offered compensation of Rp 100,000<br>\nper square meter, to Rp 160,000 per square meter.<\/p>\n<p>The two-star general also asked the residents to demolish the<br>\nmakeshift guard stations, which were used by the residents to<br>\nmonitor people and vehicles entering the area, saying that the<br>\nresidents had violated the law.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, about 100 residents met with members of the House<br>\nof Representative from the Indonesian Democratic Party faction,<br>\ncomplaining that the land dispute has not been settled.<\/p>\n<p>Hasan Saman, a resident who led the Koja Utara resident<br>\ndelegation, was picked up by city police on Friday. As of<br>\nSaturday afternoon, he had not returned home.<\/p>\n<p>The residents persisted in their refusal to give in because<br>\nthey felt they had been hurt.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We will fight for our rights to get humane compensation,&quot;<br>\nKaspin said.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the fact that they kept no legal documents, except for<br>\none document saying that they had a right to occupy the land, the<br>\nKoja Utara residents initially demanded compensation of Rp<br>\n2,275,000 per square meter but said it was negotiable.<\/p>\n<p>The Koja Utara subdistrict, which is located next to the<br>\nTanjung Priok container terminal, has been earmarked for a new<br>\ncargo terminal site.
