Officer detained for stealing $10,000<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): A police officer has been detained and
\nquestioned by the internal affairs unit for allegedly stealing
\nUS$10,000 from his superior, a police source said yesterday.<\/p>\n
The officer, identified as First Sgt. Adi, is the driver for
\nthe head of National Police Directorate of Traffic Police, Brig.
\nGen. Ansyar Roem.<\/p>\n
\"Ansyar has accused Adi of stealing the money which he put in
\nhis official car,\" the source, who asked for anonymity, said.<\/p>\n
\"Ansyar said that Adi was the only person, beside Ansyar
\nhimself, who had access to the car.\"<\/p>\n
The source said Ansyar noticed that the money was missing on
\nJan. 28.<\/p>\n
He quoted Ansyar as saying that the money was supposed to be
\nexchanged for rupiah as part of the Love Rupiah drive.<\/p>\n
Adi was questioned at the internal affairs unit at National
\nPolice Headquarters before being taken to city police
\nheadquarters Monday, he said.<\/p>\n
The source said Adi had pleaded not guilty.<\/p>\n
\"Adi said that he did not steal the money. He said Ansyar has
\njumped to (incorrect) conclusions.\"<\/p>\n
No one from the unit could explain whether the money belonged
