The latest memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the United\nStates and Iran has triggered a wave of responses regarding the future\nof stability in the Middle East. Middle East observer Smith Alhadar\nassesses that this agreement represents a turning point that\nsignificantly favours Tehran\u2019s position over Tel Aviv.<\/p>\n
According to Smith, although this MoU has the potential to ease\ntensions in the region, the greatest challenge comes from Israel\u2019s\nreaction. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is now faced with a\ndifficult choice between complying with Washington\u2019s agreement or taking\na major political risk by defying the US President.<\/p>\n

Besides its limited natural\nresources, its weaponry is also running low, especially since Trump will\nnot help it,\" Smith stressed. One of the most strategic points in this MoU is the recognition of\nIran and Oman\u2019s role in controlling the Strait of Hormuz. This vital\nshipping lane for the world\u2019s energy trade is considered to be a much\nstronger political leverage tool for Iran in the eyes of the\ninternational community.<\/p>\n

Amid the military deadlock, Smith suggested that Israel take a\nrational step by ending the confrontation and returning to the\nnegotiating table through a two-state solution.
