Samarinda \u2013 Rizky Yudaruddin, an economics observer at Mulawarman\nUniversity, has warned of the importance of energy preparedness and\nachieving energy self-sufficiency for Indonesia amid increasing\nescalation of global geopolitical conflicts at present.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe conflict between the United States, Israel and Iran regarding\nuranium enrichment is creating market uncertainty and will have\ncascading impacts on global geopolitics,\u201d said Rizky in Samarinda on\nSunday.<\/p>\n
The academic, who features on Stanford University\u2019s list of the two\nper cent most influential scientists in the world, noted that worsening\nescalation has considerable potential to disrupt international trade\nroutes.<\/p>\n
Disruptions would particularly affect the Red Sea region, which has\nconsistently served as a vital artery for 70 per cent of global trade,\nhe added.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis strategic waterway is extremely crucial for the smooth\ndistribution of energy commodity supplies to various parts of the\nworld,\u201d said the academic, who has previously conducted research on the\nimpact of war and geopolitical conflict on global investor\nbehaviour.<\/p>\n
Rizky further stated that obstacles to this logistics distribution\nroute would certainly damage the economies of many countries due to\ndisrupted supply chains.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis condition will certainly trigger a significant surge in crude\noil prices on the international market,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Although some investors might profit from rising share prices, the\noverall stability of the energy sector would be impacted.<\/p>\n
According to him, the current rise in global oil prices ultimately\nhas a direct bearing on the stability of Indonesia\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll industrial sectors in the country will feel heavy burden due to\nthe high national dependence on energy supplies from abroad,\u201d said\nRizky.<\/p>\n
Therefore, he recommended that the Indonesian government must respond\nto the situation by promptly implementing strategic and concrete\nmeasures.<\/p>\n
The primary step that must be accelerated is maximising the potential\nof domestic industries to achieve the energy self-sufficiency\ntarget.<\/p>\n
The achievement of self-sufficiency, according to him, is crucial and\nurgent to reduce the country\u2019s dependence on foreign energy\nsupplies.<\/p>\n
Beyond securing conventional energy, accelerating the development of\ngreen or renewable energy must also be a primary focus of the government\nat present.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe geopolitical and military tensions in the Middle East region are\npredicted to persist for a considerable length of time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Recognising this, Rizky observed that many nations are now competing\nto realise energy independence for their national interests.<\/p>\n
