        "content": "<p>Executive Director of Kata Rakyat, Alwan Ola Riantobi, has assessed\nthat President Prabowo Subianto\u2019s administration is sufficiently\ndemocratic and not anti-criticism in the face of widespread student\ndemonstrations. According to him, one clear indicator is the\ngovernment\u2019s willingness to accept and open a dialogue with the\nstudents. \u201cDemonstrations are good for a democratic country. What needs\nto be appreciated from the government is its willingness to accept and\nopen dialogue with the protesters. This shows that Mr Prabowo\u2019s\nadministration is democratic and not anti-criticism,\u201d Alwan said in a\nstatement in Jakarta on Friday. Alwan noted that the government\u2019s\nopenness is also evident in its willingness to listen to input from\neconomic experts and the public in response to the weakening of the\nrupiah and the decline in the Composite Stock Price Index (IHSG). This\nwas seen when fiscal and monetary policies were subsequently directed to\naddress the root causes of the problem. \u201cIt must be understood that the\nweakening of the rupiah and the fall of the IHSG are due to various\nfactors, such as global economic conditions, war, rising world interest\nrates, political uncertainty, or a domestic economic slowdown.\nTherefore, the government\u2019s response is tailored to the main cause of\nthe decline,\u201d he stated. Alwan continued, the same applies to the\nprogramme that has drawn much attention from students, namely the Free\nNutritious Meals (MBG) programme. Although it was a political promise,\nthe President did not hesitate to conduct a major evaluation. \u201cMBG is a\nform of Mr Prabowo\u2019s commitment to fulfilling his campaign promise. If\nthere are shortcomings in the implementation of MBG, the government\nimmediately carries out mitigation and creates room for future\nimprovement,\u201d he said. Therefore, Alwan believes that the escalation of\nthe student movement should decrease now that the government has\ncommitted to improving economic conditions. \u201cIndeed, the escalation of\nstudent demonstrations also needs to be examined, whether their demands\nare based on in-depth studies and research. We hope there are no\nindividuals riding on the student actions who wish to undermine the\ngovernment. So, if the government has committed to improving and opening\nspace for dialogue, the escalation of mass action should be reduced and\nstopped,\u201d he said.<\/p>",
