        "content": "<p>President Prabowo Subianto has stressed that fulfilling children\u2019s\nnutritional needs is insufficient without a significant improvement in\nthe quality of education. He made the remarks during the MPR Annual\nSession and the Joint Session of the DPR and DPD in Jakarta on Friday\n(14\/8). \u201cProviding nutritious meals alone, we realise, is not enough.\nOur children must receive a good education,\u201d President Prabowo stated.\nHe emphasised that the government is currently running the largest\nschool improvement programme in Indonesia\u2019s history to support this\nvision. This year, the government claims to have renovated more than\n71,744 schools, a sharp increase from approximately 17,000 the previous\nyear. The target is set to rise to 100,000 schools per year in 2027 and\n2028, with the ambition of completing the renovation of all schools and\nIslamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Indonesia by 2029. This\ninfrastructure improvement also extends to remote areas such as Miangas\nIsland. To ensure equitable services in isolated regions from Sabang to\nMerauke, the government has formed a special task force that will also\ntarget the improvement of health facilities like community health\ncentres (puskesmas). Beyond physical buildings, digitalisation is a key\npillar. The government aims for every school to have four classrooms\nequipped with interactive flat panel screens by December 2026. These\ndevices will allow access to a global curriculum and learning materials\nthat students can review independently, even from home. Another strategy\ninvolves building centralised studios where the best teachers will\nbroadcast distance learning sessions to thousands of schools. \u201cFor any\nsubject, we will gather the best teachers,\u201d Prabowo asserted. On the\ncurriculum side, Prabowo is pushing for foreign language instruction\nstarting from the first grade of primary school. Languages prioritised\ninclude English, Mandarin, Arabic, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French,\nand Russian. Early mastery of foreign languages is deemed crucial for\nthe younger generation to possess high competitiveness in the global job\nmarket. The President views the demand for international labour as a\nmajor opportunity, making the combination of adequate school facilities,\ndigital technology, and foreign language skills the key to preparing\nIndonesia\u2019s future generation on the international stage.<\/p>",
