Ambon (ANTARA) - Amid the diversity that strongly defines Maluku,\nefforts to nurture tolerance and strengthen brotherhood are not merely a\nsocial necessity. Nurturing tolerance also serves as the primary\nfoundation for driving sustainable regional development while attracting\ninvestments to the archipelago region.<\/p>\n
This province, known for its cultural richness and traditional bonds,\nhas a long history in managing conflict dynamics. From that experience\nemerges a collective awareness that peace is not just a condition\nwithout conflict, but the result of a long process involving dialogue,\ntrust, and shared commitment from all elements of society.<\/p>\n
That awareness becomes increasingly relevant as Maluku now enters the\nnational strategic development map through several National Strategic\nProjects (PSN) expected to boost new economic growth in eastern\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
Major projects such as the development of the Integrated Ambon Port,\nthe Way Apu Dam on Buru Island, and the Abadi Field in the Masela Block\nsymbolise Maluku\u2019s transformation into a maritime and energy-based\neconomic centre. Additionally, the development of the fisheries sector,\nmarine tourism, border areas, and agriculture in regions like Ambon,\nTual, Saumlaki, and the Aru Islands is being continuously promoted.<\/p>\n
The Integrated Ambon Port, for instance, is projected to become a\nmodern logistics hub integrated with national and international trade\nnetworks. Meanwhile, the Masela Block is one of the largest energy\nprojects expected to attract global investment and create widespread job\nopportunities. The Way Apu Dam, on the other hand, strengthens water\nresilience and supports agricultural productivity.<\/p>\n
However, behind these great opportunities, security stability is the\ndetermining factor.<\/p>\n
Maluku Governor Hendrik Lewerissa asserts that every conflict\nresolution must be pursued through peaceful channels, prioritising\ndialogue, deliberation, and customary approaches as deeply rooted local\nwisdom, while still entrusting legal processes to law enforcement\nauthorities.<\/p>\n
He views security stability as the primary prerequisite for\ndevelopment. Without a conducive social condition, various strategic\nprogrammes, including national-scale projects, will be hindered or even\ndelayed.<\/p>\n
In line with that, society is expected not to be easily provoked by\nunverified information, as the spread of hoaxes will only muddy the\nsituation and slow down development progress. On the contrary, society\nshould strengthen messages of peace, uphold brotherhood values, and\nrevive the value of compassion that defines Maluku\u2019s identity.<\/p>\n
In that framework, the Governor also invites all elements of society,\nfrom village kings, legislative members, religious figures, customary\nleaders, youth, to women, to synergise with security apparatus. This\ncollaboration is deemed important to ensure that every potential\nconflict can be quelled early, thereby maintaining space for\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n

From the security perspective, Ambon and Lease Islands Police Chief\nKombes Pol Yoga Putra Prima Setya emphasises the importance of\npreventive and preemptive approaches in maintaining regional stability.\nThe police continue to strengthen patrols, early detection, and active\ncommunication with the community as part of the strategy to create a\nsafe and conducive situation.<\/p>\n
He assesses that community involvement is a key factor in maintaining\npeace. Awareness to restrain oneself, not being easily provoked, and\nresolving issues in a familial manner become social capital that must be\ncontinuously strengthened in Maluku\u2019s community life.<\/p>\n
In an academic perspective, Professor Abdul Haris Fatgehipon, from\nthe Faculty of Social Sciences and Law at Jakarta State University,\nviews Maluku\u2019s experience as an important reference in conflict\nresolution studies in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
He explains that conflict is a complex phenomenon influenced by\nvarious social, political, and economic factors, so its resolution must\nbe carried out holistically through security approaches, dialogue, law\nenforcement, and social rehabilitation. Maluku\u2019s experience shows that\nintegrating these approaches can rebuild trust within society.<\/p>\n
Local values like pela gandong become one of the important pillars in\nnurturing peace. This system not only functions as a symbol of\nbrotherhood but also as an effective social mechanism in bridging\ndifferences and preventing conflict.<\/p>\n
