NU, Muhammadiyah to fight graft<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The country's two largest Muslim organizations,
\nNahdlatul Ulama (NU) and Muhammadiyah, agreed on Tuesday to work
\ntogether with an organization the Partnership in combating
\ncorruption, which will start from their own organizations.<\/p>\n
NU deputy secretary-general Syaiful Bahri Anshori said one of
\nthe anticorruption programs was the introduction of modern
\nfinancial management in the 40 million-strong organization in a
\nbid to minimize irregularities.<\/p>\n
Muhammadiyah foreign secretary Rizal Sukma added that the
\nmodernist organization would do the same and would publish a
\nhandbook on an Islamic interpretation of corruption.<\/p>\n
Rizal said his organization would set up an anticorruption
\nwatch in its branches across the country to monitor possible
\ncorruption at the local level.<\/p>\n
\"We expect this anticorruption movement will not proceed alone
\nas a sectarian action. It should involve others,\" he said.<\/p>\n
The Partnership is a cooperative arrangement between the
\ngovernment, civil society organizations, the private sector and
\ninternational partners with the aim of facilitating and
\nsupporting clean governance in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
NU, Muhammadiyah and the Partnership will sign a memorandum of
\nunderstanding on good governance on Wednesday. --JP<\/p>",
