The Plenary Session III of the 35th Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) Congress has\ndecided that voting will be used as the mechanism to determine the\nmethod for electing the Chairman of the Executive Board of Nahdlatul\nUlama (PBNU) for the coming period.<\/p>\n
Chairman of Plenary Session III and Secretary of the Steering\nCommittee of the 35th NU Congress, Professor Mohammad Nuh, said the\nforum continues to prioritise deliberation and consensus, but has\nprepared voting should an agreement not be reached.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is getting lively. We still offer it to all of you. But once\nagain, there is no need to worry if we cannot find consensus. We have\nagreed, we agree to vote, no need to worry, God willing, it will be\nachieved,\u201d he said in Jombang on Saturday.<\/p>\n
The decision to vote was taken after discussions on the election\nmechanism failed to reach an agreement in the Organisational Commission\nSession and again experienced dynamics when the discussion continued in\nPlenary Session III at Bahrul Ulum Islamic Boarding School, Tambakberas,\nJombang.<\/p>\n
Previously, the Organisational Commission Session produced two\noptions for the PBNU Chairman election mechanism after discussions on\nthe matter had not found common ground.<\/p>\n
The first option was direct election with a one man one vote system,\nstill accompanied by the approval of the elected Rais Aam.<\/p>\n
The second option was a selection mechanism through the Nahdlatul\nUlama Branch Boards (PCNU) and Nahdlatul Ulama Regional Boards (PWNU).\nThe proposed names would then be tabulated and submitted to the Ahlul\nHalli wal Aqdi (AHWA) to choose the candidate deemed worthy of leading\nNU.<\/p>\n
Chairman of the Organisational Commission Session, Professor Asrorun\nNiam, said the requirements for the PBNU Chairman candidacy had been\nagreed to be made more flexible as long as they still met the core\nrequirements as stipulated in the NU Articles of Association and Bylaws\n(AD\/ART).<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of Nahdlatul Ulama\n(PBNU), K.H. Zulfa Mustofa, spoke about a joint statement of position\nwith four other candidates, namely K.H. Abdul Hakim Mahfudz (Gus Kikin),\nK.H. Abdul Ghaffar Ro\u2019in (Gus Rozin), K.H. Yusuf Chudlori (Gus Yusuf),\nand K.H. Abdussalam Shohib (Gus Salam), who agreed on the election of\nthe PBNU Chairman through the AHWA.<\/p>\n
\u201cI, Zulfa Mustofa, KH Abdul Hakim Mahfudz (Gus Kikin), KH Abdul\nGhaffar Ro\u2019in (Gus Rozin), KH Yusuf Chudlori (Gus Yusuf), KH Abdussalam\nShohib (Gus Salam) agree that the election of the chairman be carried\nout by the Ahlul Halli wal Aqdi,\u201d said Zulfa.<\/p>\n
The statement also triggered dynamics in the plenary session.\nAfterwards, Professor Mohammad Nuh adjourned the session and announced\nthat the vote on the PBNU Chairman election mechanism was scheduled to\ntake place on Saturday evening at 19.00 WIB.<\/p>\n
