The East Nusa Tenggara Regional Police (Polda NTT) have deployed an\nIntegrated Task Force to strengthen the handling of the earthquake\nimpact in Nagekeo Regency.<\/p>\n
NTT Police Chief Inspector General Dr.\u00a0Rudi Darmoko said in Kupang on\nSunday that all involved units have been directed to work in an\nintegrated manner according to their respective duties and\nfunctions.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe National Police are present to ensure the public receives\nprotection from the evacuation process, victim handling, through to the\nrecovery stages. The safety of people\u2019s lives is our top priority,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
The deployment of personnel and various police technical elements is\nintended to ensure the emergency response proceeds quickly, in a\ncoordinated and professional manner, with public safety and security as\nthe main priority.<\/p>\n
In this humanitarian operation, a number of police forces have been\ndeployed to handle various needs on the ground.<\/p>\n
The Mobile Brigade Corps has deployed Search and Rescue (SAR)\npersonnel to sweep affected areas, including hard-to-reach\nlocations.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the K-9 Unit from the Animal Police has also been assigned\nto assist in searching for victims who may be buried under disaster\ndebris.<\/p>\n
For health handling, the Police Chief said medical personnel have\nbeen prepared to establish a field clinic. In addition to providing\nemergency medical services, the health team is also providing\npsychological support or trauma healing to affected communities.<\/p>\n
The Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team has been prepared to\nidentify deceased victims scientifically and accurately while\nmaintaining respect for the victims and their families.<\/p>\n
In the traffic sector, traffic police personnel are carrying out\ntraffic management and engineering to open priority corridors.<\/p>\n
This measure is intended to ensure the smooth mobilisation of\nambulances, rescue vehicles, and the distribution of logistical aid.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, community policing personnel are accompanying residents at\naffected locations. Officers are also assisting with data collection of\nresidents, including separated families and people who have lost contact\nwith their family members.<\/p>\n
The NTT Police Chief emphasised that security aspects are also a\nconcern in disaster situations.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn disaster conditions, besides saving the public, we also ensure\nthat environmental security is maintained. We must not allow people who\nare experiencing misfortune to become victims of crime,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Therefore, criminal investigation personnel have also been deployed\nto anticipate potential looting or fraud schemes exploiting the disaster\nsituation, including irresponsible donation aid modus operandi.<\/p>\n
The Police Chief reminded the public not to easily believe or spread\nunverified information.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe urge the public to remain calm and follow the instructions of\nofficers on the ground. Do not spread information whose truth has not\nbeen confirmed, because in disaster situations, incorrect information\ncan cause panic,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Polda NTT has confirmed that the Integrated Task Force will continue\nto work together with the regional government, the Indonesian National\nArmed Forces, the Regional Disaster Management Agency, the National\nSearch and Rescue Agency, and all relevant stakeholders in handling the\ndisaster impact in Nagekeo Regency.<\/p>\n
