        "content": "<p>The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) has reported that the\ndeath toll from the 7.7 magnitude earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT)\nhas now reached 87 people. The latest data as of Saturday (22\/8\/2026)\nshows an increase in the number of fatalities as well as the total\nnumber of displaced persons, which has surpassed 150,000 across various\nregencies in NTT.<\/p>\n<p>Acting Head of the BNPB Centre for Disaster Data, Information and\nCommunication, Berton SP Panjaitan, detailed the distribution of\nfatalities across seven regencies. He stressed that the government is\nprioritising the fulfilment of basic needs for survivors amid ongoing\naftershock activity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, cumulatively, the number of deaths stands at 87, with the\nbreakdown as follows: Manggarai 31, East Manggarai 30, Sikka 9, Ende 2,\nWest Manggarai 1, Nagekeo 13, and Ngada 4,\u201d he said in an online press\nconference on Saturday (22\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the fatalities, BNPB recorded 1,298 injured residents,\nof whom 336 suffered serious injuries. Furthermore, the continuing\naftershocks have caused the number of displaced persons to rise\nsignificantly from around 130,000 to 150,576 people. Aftershocks have\nbeen recorded 5,012 times since the main earthquake struck the\nregion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt present, due to the large number of aftershocks, the number of\ndisplaced persons has also increased from yesterday\u2019s figure of around\n130,000 to 150,576,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The government continues to distribute logistics, which to date have\nreached 954 tonnes through 68 flight sorties. Distribution is focused on\nLabuan Bajo and Maumere airports, to be forwarded to regency command\nposts, with direct helicopter deliveries to remote areas such as Palu\u2019e\nIsland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLogistics distribution today has reached 147 tonnes carried out\nthrough 10 flight sorties. The distribution consists of 70 tonnes in 5\nsorties to Labuan Bajo and 77 tonnes in 5 sorties to Maumere,\u201d he\nexplained.<\/p>\n<p>For medical handling, the hospital ship KRI Dr.\u00a0Soeharso 990\nbelonging to the Indonesian Navy has docked at Reo Port to support the\ntreatment of seriously injured patients requiring surgery.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, the government has begun mapping out a scheme for\nstimulant funds for residents whose homes suffered damage according to\nthe level of physical damage.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAssistance for moderately and severely damaged homes is divided into\ntwo schemes. For moderately damaged homes, stimulant funds of Rp 30\nmillion will be provided, while for lightly damaged homes, Rp 15\nmillion,\u201d Berton added.<\/p>\n<p>Verification of building damage data will be carried out over the\nnext two to three weeks after the emergency response phase concludes.\nBNPB has assured that all personnel and volunteers remain on standby in\nthe field to ensure the smooth delivery of health and sanitation\nservices for all NTT evacuees.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are ensuring that the fulfilment of basic needs for\ndisaster-affected residents remains a priority,\u201d he concluded.<\/p>",
