        "content": "<p>DPD RI Chairman Sultan Bachtiar Najamudin has welcomed the\ngovernment\u2019s decision to strengthen disaster emergency funds through the\nTransfer to Regions (TKD) allocation. According to him, the additional\nbudget is important for regions currently facing disasters.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a nation, we should be grateful that next year\u2019s state budget\nwill reach around 4,000 trillion Rupiah. There is considerable fiscal\nspace to strengthen growth as well as national economic equity down to\nthe most remote regions,\u201d Sultan told journalists while attending the\n81st Independence Day ceremony at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on\nMonday (17\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n<p>Sultan urged that the proportion of central and regional government\nspending be arranged so that it delivers a tangible impact on public\nwelfare. According to him, regions hit by disasters need emergency\nbudget support.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo regions currently being struck by natural disasters need to be\ngiven emergency disaster budget injections. Regions such as NTT are\nareas with commodity potential that has not yet been optimised, yet they\nface a fairly high risk of natural disasters,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis certainly creates problems for regional governments in\nincreasing regional revenue. Therefore, proportional TKD support is\nimportant for the regions concerned,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Sultan also praised the NTT provincial government\u2019s swift move to\ndeclare a disaster emergency status. According to him, that decision has\nenabled faster and more coordinated earthquake handling.<\/p>\n<p>Sultan asked regional governments to continue coordinating with the\nNational Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the central government.\nAccording to him, coordination is needed to ensure data on victims and\ndamage caused by the earthquake.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe appreciate the government\u2019s serious efforts in handling the NTT\nearthquake quickly and carefully. All logistical aid has been sent for\ndistribution to communities still sheltering in evacuation tents,\u201d he\nstressed.<\/p>\n<p>He said DPD RI has coordinated with all DPD RI members from NTT.\nCurrently, four NTT senators are conducting direct inspections in the\naffected regions.<\/p>",
