        "content": "<p>West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Governor Lalu Muhamad Iqbal has urged all\nresidents to improve their preparedness for various possible disasters\nfollowing the strong earthquake that shook East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNTB is a region that is prone to earthquakes, so we must improve our\npreparedness,\u201d he said in Mataram on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>The NTB provincial government will soon issue a circular to all\nregents and mayors to increase vigilance against disasters in their\nrespective areas.<\/p>\n<p>The circular on improving preparedness is important to implement\nwithout causing panic among the public.<\/p>\n<p>Iqbal asked residents to remain calm in responding to information\nregarding the potential for aftershocks or earthquakes in the West Nusa\nTenggara region after the major earthquake that occurred in Flores, NTT,\non 15 August 2026.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, the earthquake that occurred in Flores does not\nautomatically trigger an earthquake in West Nusa Tenggara. The statement\nwas delivered after Iqbal communicated with the Meteorology, Climatology\nand Geophysics Agency (BMKG) and academics from the Bandung Institute of\nTechnology (ITB).<\/p>\n<p>Based on a report from the National Disaster Management Agency\n(BNPB), the total number of fatalities caused by the 7.7-magnitude\ntectonic earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) reached 47 people.<\/p>\n<p>BNPB recorded a total of 157 heavily damaged houses, 41 moderately\ndamaged houses and 148 lightly damaged houses.<\/p>\n<p>Damage also occurred to public facilities, including 87 educational\nfacilities, 18 health facilities, five places of worship, six offices\nand a number of other public facilities.<\/p>\n<p>Geologist from the University of Muhammadiyah Mataram (UMMAT) Aji\nSyailendra said the Nusa Tenggara region has high tectonic activity\nbecause it is influenced by various active fault structures, including\nthe Flores Back-Arc Thrust.<\/p>",
