The Provincial Government of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) is exploring\nstrategic cooperation opportunities across various sectors, from trade\nand tourism to natural resource development, human resource enhancement,\nand energy, with Morocco. Governor of NTB Lalu Muhamad Iqbal, after\nreceiving Moroccan Ambassador to Indonesia Redouane Houssaini at his\noffice in Mataram on Friday, stressed that international cooperation\nmust deliver tangible benefits to the community through increased\ninvestment, job creation, industrial downstreaming, and strengthening\nregional economic competitiveness. The meeting was also attended by\nMember of Commission II of the House of Representatives Jazuli Juwaini\nand NTB Regional Secretary Abul Chair.<\/p>\n
In a presentation themed \u2018An Archipelago with Unlimited Potential\u2019,\nIqbal introduced NTB as a region with substantial and diverse investment\nprospects. The province has a population of approximately 5.81 million,\npredominantly of productive age, supported by stable economic growth and\na strategic geographical position as a gateway to eastern Indonesia. In\nthe tourism sector, he offered a concept of quality tourism, focusing on\ndeveloping high-quality, sustainable, and globally competitive\ndestinations. NTB currently boasts 265 tourist destinations, 375 tourist\nvillages, and continuously developing supporting infrastructure. \u2018The\ntrend in tourist visits is also showing an increase, in line with\nefforts to expand international flight connectivity and develop\ninvestment in hospitality, tourism areas, and tourism transportation,\u2019\nhe stated.<\/p>\n
The agricultural sector remains one of NTB\u2019s main strengths,\ncontributing the largest share to the Gross Regional Domestic Product.\nVarious leading commodities such as rice, maize, shallots, chillies,\ncoffee, cocoa, coconut, vanilla, and tobacco present promising\ninvestment opportunities. The NTB provincial government is currently\nrunning a programme to plant one million coconut trees and one million\ncoffee trees as part of a sustainable agricultural development strategy\nintegrated with the agricultural product processing industry. In the\nlivestock sector, NTB is one of the national centres for beef cattle\nproduction. The government is opening investment opportunities in\nbreeding development, modern abattoirs, meat processing industries,\ndairy products, and a strategic beef cattle farming project in Labangka,\nSumbawa Regency.<\/p>\n
The marine and fisheries sector also holds significant potential.\nFishery production reaching approximately 1.25 million tonnes in 2025\nserves as crucial capital for developing the fishery product processing\nindustry, constructing cold chain facilities, and downstreaming various\nleading export commodities such as tuna, vannamei shrimp, lobster,\nseaweed, and salt. In the energy sector, Iqbal affirmed that NTB\npossesses vast new and renewable energy potential, particularly solar,\nwind, water, biomass, and geothermal energy. \u2018This potential is\nstrengthened by the existence of at least 15 large dams that can be\ndeveloped as sites for floating solar power plants or hybrid power\ngeneration systems,\u2019 Iqbal explained. Furthermore, strategic mineral\nresources such as copper, gold, silver, manganese, iron sand, and lead\noffer significant opportunities for developing green energy-based\ndownstream industries.<\/p>\n
As part of its investment promotion, the NTB provincial government\nalso offered a number of investment-ready projects, including the\nKerakas Beach Five-Star Hotel in North Lombok, the Gili Gede Luxury\nResort & Five-Star Hotel, the Mautika Mandalika Hotel, and the Kuta\nHeights Hotel in the Mandalika area. \u2018All these projects have a combined\ninvestment value of approximately Rp1.61 trillion and have been prepared\nwith infrastructure support, licensing ease, and promising market\nprospects,\u2019 Iqbal stated.
