JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Traders at Waru Market, Lagoa, Koja, North\nJakarta, are lamenting that prices for a range of food commodities,\nincluding vegetables and cooking spices, have continued to rise since\nEid al-Fitr 2026.<\/p>\n
Jaelani (40), one of the vegetable traders at Waru Market, said price\nincreases have affected several vegetables such as lettuce, beans, and\nwhite cabbage.<\/p>\n
\u2018It\u2019s getting worse now. The prices of vegetables have all risen,\u2019\nJaelani said when approached at the site on Friday, 22 May 2026.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the price of green beans, which had previously been around\nRp 15,000 per kilogram, has risen to around Rp 23,000 to Rp 25,000 per\nkilogram.<\/p>\n
According to Jaelani, the price rises have been felt since after Eid\nand have not yet stabilised.<\/p>\n
He suspects the stock of vegetables for retailers has diminished\nbecause many have been purchased by large buyers directly from the\nwholesale market.<\/p>\n
\u2018We retailers deal in 50-kilogram units; we can only take 50\nkilograms at a time. If you mean large catering operators, they buy in\ntonnes. Yesterday there was even someone who bought potatoes up to 1\ntonne, and they brought it by car. They transported it in a car, you\nknow,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n
\u2018So it\u2019s all distributed among retailers and gone, retailers can\u2019t\nget any, which is why prices are high,\u2019 Jaelani added.<\/p>\n
He also noted that the prices of red onions and chilli peppers have\ncontinued to rise in recent times.<\/p>\n
\u2018These prices are high across the board,\u2019 Hendri said when approached\nby Kompas.com at the site on Friday.<\/p>\n
