Student demonstrations demanding reform in all fields led
\nformer president Soeharto to step down.<\/p>\n
We now hear frequent insults and mocking criticism. It would
\nbe understandable if it came from the people known to be vocal in
\ntheir criticism against the government of the Soeharto era.<\/p>\n
I am saddened by the irony of the situation, that the civil
\nservants and other people who were known to always support,
\nidolize even excessively flatter the powerholders, in return
\nreceiving facilities, have turned and joined in the chorus of
\ninsults.<\/p>\n
I am convinced these people lack noble qualities. There is
\ntreachery toward themselves and toward their leader. They are
\ncowardly, shifty and easily frightened.<\/p>\n
As an Indonesian citizen, I wish that the era of reform will
\nwelcome leaders of noble character who will reign far from the
\npseudo-loyal servants.<\/p>\n
