The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is expanding its efforts to reorganise areas along railway tracks beyond the Senen district in Central Jakarta, aiming to prevent the emergence of slums and reduce accident risks near rail lines. This initiative includes relocation to decent housing, enforcement of state land regulations, prevention of new occupations, and installation of boundary fences, forming part of the broader goal in the 2025–2029 Mid-Term Regional Development Plan to address all 445 slum RW areas by 2027. Collaboration with central government, PT Kereta Api Indonesia, and provision of supporting infrastructure like water, health, and education services at relocation sites such as Rusun Nagrak, Rorotan, and PIK Pulogadung underscore the commitment to creating a safer, more organised, and humane Jakarta.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has emphasised that the
reorganisation of areas along railway tracks is not limited to the Senen
district in Central Jakarta but will be extended to several other
locations in the capital. This step is taken to prevent the emergence of
slum settlements while reducing accident risks around railway lines.
“The approach includes relocation to decent housing, enforcement of
state land regulations, and prevention of new occupations, including the
installation of boundary fences at vulnerable points,” said Chico in a
written statement on Sunday (26/4/2026). “This is a concrete step
towards a safer, more organised, and humane Jakarta,” he added. Chico
explained that the railway trackside reorganisation programme is part of
the DKI Provincial Government’s larger target to reduce slum areas, as
outlined in the DKI Jakarta Mid-Term Regional Development Plan (RPJMD)
2025–2029. In that document, the Provincial Government targets the
reorganisation of all slum RW areas in Jakarta, which number around 445
RW. Up to 2024, 284 RW have been addressed, while the remainder will be
completed gradually until 2027. In 2025, the local government targets an
additional 55 RW as part of accelerating the programme. These efforts
will be carried out through collaboration with various parties,
including the central government and PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero)
as the owner of some land along the rail lines. As a form of support,
the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government has also prepared three apartment
buildings, namely Rusun Nagrak, Rorotan, and PIK Pulogadung, as
additional temporary relocation options for affected residents. In
addition, the Provincial Government is preparing basic infrastructure to
ensure that the built housing is truly habitable and integrated with the
urban system. “The DKI Provincial Government is ready to fully support
the provision of supporting infrastructure at the new housing
locations,” said Chico. He explained that for clean water needs, the
Provincial Government will coordinate with PAM Jaya/PDAM. Meanwhile, for
health and education services, the Provincial Government will involve
the Health Service and Education Service to ensure that residents’
access to services remains fulfilled.
",
