Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia - The stern warning issued by United States\nPresident Donald Trump regarding the closure of the Strait of Hormuz has\nprovoked a sharp response from top Iranian officials. Iran\u2019s Parliament\nSpeaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf stated that Washington\u2019s military actions\nare worsening the situation not only in the Middle East but also for\nAmerican citizens themselves.<\/p>\n
In his statement on Monday (6\/4\/2026), Qalibaf accused Trump\u2019s war\npolicy against Iran of potentially bringing severe consequences for the\nAmerican people. He voiced this criticism after Trump issued an\nultimatum demanding the reopening of the strategic shipping route\nthrough the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
Through a harshly toned post on the Truth Social platform on Sunday,\nTrump warned that Iran would \u201clive in hell\u201d if the route was not\nreopened for trading ships by Tuesday at 8:00 PM Eastern Time. In the\nsame statement, Trump also renewed threats to strike key Iranian\ninfrastructure, including power plants and bridges.<\/p>\n
Several hours after that statement, Qalibaf responded via X, urging\nTrump to stop what he called a \u201cdangerous game.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYour reckless steps are dragging the United States into a HORRIFIC\nHELL for every family, and our entire region will burn because you\ninsist on following Netanyahu\u2019s orders,\u201d wrote Qalibaf, referring to\nIsraeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.<\/p>\n
He added a stern warning to Washington that military strategies would\nbring no benefits to the United States.<\/p>\n
\u201cDon\u2019t get it wrong: You won\u2019t gain anything through war crimes,\u201d the\nIranian official added.<\/p>\n
This tension is closely linked to Iran\u2019s closure of the Strait of\nHormuz following the US and Israeli air strike campaign against Iran on\n28 February. Shortly after the military operation began, Tehran\nannounced that the strait would be closed to ships deemed \u201cenemies.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Iranian government then affirmed that navigation rules in the\narea would be changed and that the Strait of Hormuz would not be\naccessible to US or Israeli ships for an extended period.<\/p>\n
The Strait of Hormuz is the world\u2019s most vital energy route. Around\n20% of global oil shipments typically pass through those narrow waters.\nAdditionally, about 20% of the world\u2019s liquefied natural gas (LNG) trade\nrelies on that route.<\/p>\n
