PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison projects a significant 18% surge in data traffic during the 2026 Eid period, with peak traffic expected on Day 2 after Eid rather than on the holiday itself. The telecommunications operator is preparing for approximately 14 million customers to travel during the exodus period by reinforcing networks across 797 points of interest and deploying over 2,500 engineers on standby.

Jakarta – PT Indosat Ooredoo Hutchison Tbk (ISAT) is projecting a
significant surge in data traffic during the exodus and Eid 2026
period.

Internally, Indosat projects a data traffic increase of approximately
18% during the Eid period, with a baseline daily traffic of
approximately 55,499 TB. Meanwhile, the forecast peak traffic (D+2) is
estimated to reach 65,000 TB or rise 22.3% year on year.

Raden Tofan, SVP Head of Network Operations at Indosat, explained
that the traffic surge does not actually occur on Eid Day itself. “On
Eid Day itself, we will see an increase of around 18%, but usually the
peak occurs on Day 1 or 2 after Eid. So it is not on Eid Day itself.
Because on Eid Day, the focus is on worship and visiting relatives
whilst taking photographs which they upload,” Tofan said during a press
conference in Jakarta on Friday (20 February 2026).

Indosat also predicts that approximately 14 million of its customers
will travel for the exodus this year. Several regions have become a
primary focus due to their potential for recording the highest traffic
growth.

“Areas such as Bogor and Garut in the Jabotabek region, as well as
Lampung-Central Lampung are destinations for exodus travellers. We
predict there will be approximately 14 million Indosat customers who
will travel. This is a very significant responsibility for us,” Tofan
said.

He stated that Indosat has chosen to invest in building permanent
base stations at several locations that consistently record traffic
surges during the exodus and Eid periods. Previously, such locations
were only strengthened through mobile base station deployments.

To anticipate the surge, Indosat is strengthening networks at points
of interest (POI). In detail, there are 797 POIs being secured, an
increase of 157 points compared to previously. For land exodus routes,
the company is preparing 77 routes covering 36 toll roads, 31 non-toll
roads, and 10 railway lines, with total coverage of approximately 8,121
kilometres.

“In total, there are 8,000 kilometres. We will ensure that our
network capacity is sufficient and stable,” he emphasised.

From an operational perspective, Indosat is placing more than 2,500
engineers on standby for 24-hour operations.

Overall, Indosat currently operates approximately 55,000 physical
sites across 416 districts, with internet traffic capacity reaching
56,000 TB per day.
",
