        "content": "<p>JAKARTA - A member of the National Commission on Violence Against\nWomen, Yuni Asriyanti, has emphasised that policies for protecting women\nmust not stop at separation approaches such as women-only carriages.\nAccording to her, separating carriages is a temporary measure but not\nthe primary solution for ensuring a sense of safety for women in public\ntransport, particularly regarding cases of sexual harassment. \u201cThis step\ncan be a temporary effort, but it must not replace the responsibility of\nthe state and service providers to build a transport ecosystem that is\nsafe for all,\u201d Yuni said in a written statement on Wednesday\n(29\/4\/2026). This underscores that women-only carriage separation\npolicies do not automatically guarantee women\u2019s safety as users and\ninstead risk perpetuating discrimination and diverting attention from\nthe root problems. \u201cNamely, the lack of a transport ecosystem that is\nsafe from violence as well as reliable in terms of safety for all\nusers,\u201d she stated.
