Nosferatu enters local music industry<\/p>\n

JAKARTA (JP): Looking for something hard'n'heavy? Listen to
\nNosferatu.<\/p>\n
That's exactly how the four-member group plays its music,
\nalthough lead vocalist Agus Lasmono claims that Nosferatu
\nconcentrates on the neoclassical, heavy groove genre.<\/p>\n
It is probably rather unimportant to quibble about what kind
\nof music the group actually plays because rock music, to quote
\ncritic Jon Pareles, is an open-ended concept.<\/p>\n
The group's maiden album, Visible But Untouched, was released
\nlast month without much fanfare, probably because its members --
\ntwo Indonesians and two Americans -- do not have a strong
\nfoothold in the music industry yet.<\/p>\n
This has not prevented them from turning out an interesting
\nalbum which opens with Thermal Destruction, a song about the
\nhelplessness of human beings fighting the forces of evil.<\/p>\n
The songs following, World of Policy, The Phantom (SOS) and
\nAsylum, all carry more or less the same message.<\/p>\n
It is not until the last song on Side A, To Hurt The One, that
\nNosferatu begins to touch on matters of the heart which is
\npresented in their typical way: hard and heavy!<\/p>\n
Lasmono wrote all the music and lyrics for Visible But
\nUntouched including the signature, "Nosferatu".<\/p>\n
Also Lasmono, the son of Sudwikatmono, one of Indonesia's most
\nsuccessful business entrepreneurs, reportedly financed the
\nrecording of the first Nosferatu album.<\/p>\n
Lasmono is still pursuing an MBA degree at the West Coast
\nUniversity California.<\/p>\n
Other members of the group are Tjahjo Wisanggeni, son of
\nformer Indonesian Attorney General the late Sukarton Marmosarjono
\nplaying guitar, Ricky Wolking (bass) and Mark Bistany (drums).<\/p>\n
Unlike Lasmono, who spent time to meet the press in Indonesia,
\nWisanggeni, Wolking and Bistany, for undisclosed reasons seemed
\nto prefer to stay in the U.S.<\/p>\n
Wisanggeni's guitar accentuates Nosferatu's craze for
\nsomething bold, while Wolking's bass and Bistany's drums are, at
\nbest, supportive.<\/p>\n
In all fairness, the album is interesting and its title
\nVisible But Untouched should be seen as a reflection of the
\ngroup's efforts to present haunting, baffling music for those
\ntrying to come to terms with themselves.<\/p>\n
Other songs on the album are This Emptiness, Terminal 666,
\nSick of Goodbyes and Tastes Like Chicken!? (Instrumental).<\/p>\n
The album was recorded at The Red Zone Studio, North
\nHollywood, California, in April and May last year.<\/p>\n
Nosferatu members say that their album will also be
\ndistributed in other countries, but it is in Indonesia, where
\nthey are cooperating with a major record company, that they hope
\nto have their first market.<\/p>\n
